I am excited to announce the next major version (v2) of betterwrite.io, planned for 2026.1. betterwrite is a Google Docs alternative focused on writers and creative writing enthusiasts. Our main focus is shifting the core of the project from Vercel, Supabase, and Dropbox SDK to Appwrite, a complete development platform created by Eldad A. Fux. In addition, several new tools are being developed/planned:

• Encryption for all file reading and saving stages using WebCrypto;
• Bionic Reading option for file generators;
• .epub extension for direct publishing on platforms like Amazon Direct Publishing and native support for Kindle and other readers;
• Metadata for fraud or copy detection beyond the application/bw+zip mimetype;
• Making the tool explanation “tour” more detailed and concise;
• Rewrite deprecated code, replacing it with proprietary libraries such as pdfeasy, ununuraccs, and a dedicated package for appwrite-vue.

The application only identifies that the file was generated by the tool, but the file's use has no license or usage/publication limitations. We have monetization plans in addition to google ads in the free plan, but we will never limit the use of a tool or file export if the user does not have a paid plan.
